Caesars (Toledo)

Luray II Toledo 6048

CaesarsToledo

Caesar's opened August 2010 and has been the number one expat hangout in Toledo ever since. A welcomed western menu, cold beer and attentive waiters was all the expats really wanted and Tony(under) and Shirley, the Aussie-Phil couple, didn't disappoint.

The restaurant was planned in three steps: First a take-out section and outside seating area, under the roof. They are just about to complete the second step; a finer dining inside, with aircon. Step three will be a sports bar in the back, planned to open in the end of 2011. Tony also assures me there will never be any karaoke here!

Tony is spotted outside almost every day, and he has spent a lot of time monitoring everything. If the waitress fails to ask of something, he will correct them. This way he has trained the staff to be the most attentive in Toledo. Food is served pretty quickly, and the quality is excellent. The menu is gradually expanding, and he can offer pork, chicken, soups, pasta, appetizers, burgers, seafood, chicken cordon bleu, tempura prawns, dessert etc. The milk shakes are made of real fruit, ice cream and milk, are huge and very addictive I can confirm.

Beer is 35 for SMB and 40 for SML. He recently added some wine to the menu, and can offer red and white wine by glass for 80 peso, or a bottle from 350 up.

They just added breakfast to their menu, Filipino from 150, British 220 or American 240 or the Big Breakfast for 320 including eggs, steak, bacon, sausage, home fries, baked beans, grilled tomato, toast, tea or coffee. Should keep you going for a while! Tony tells me they try to buy most ingridients locally, but they also have to add from Cebu.

Lamb shanks and US ribeye steaks are now also on the menu, at very reasonable rates(280-320 peso). Tha lambs shanks should be ordered in advance to make sure it's available, it takes about two hours to cook them. I haven't yet had the pleasure eating them, but the steaks are good.

Tony is no novice to the Philippines, he used to run a hotel, bar and restaurant in Angeles before. His wife being from Toledo, they decided to move here, and has been here for almost a year. He assumes there are 100 expats in the Toledo area, an additional number of long term tourists and that 60-70 % of them are Norwegian. Not everyone come out too often, but Tony is probably the one in town that seems to know everyone as most of them seem to drop by here from time to time. Also the locals seem to enjoy his food, there are quiet often groups of locals here. Serving both local and foreign food, he can cater for both groups.

Every Wednesday the Norwegians gather here for lunch, a well established tradition.

Drop by and say hi from me!
